Lockets have always been a favored form of jewelry as they keep special memories close to the heart. This lovely example is English, circa 1880. The buckle motif was quite popular during this period and the use of its sleek design is still utilized today. This locket has fine engraving and an unusual angled presentation of the strap and buckle. It measures 2 1/2 inches long with the bail X slightly less than 1 1/2 inches across. It opens left to right and reveals a picture, possibly a watercolor of a woman. The glass is no longer present, but the bezel remains and a personal photo of choice easily can be replaced. It also comes with a long black ultra-suede cord, but can be used on a silver collar, or long silver chain. It is a fine example and the condition is excellent. English, circa 1880. |
