This is the first Georgian ring in precious pink topaz I have had the joy to sell. It is 18th century, circa 1760, and English in origin. Designed with classical fluted and arched shoulders, it joins a finely reeded shank. The central element has a foiled back faceted pink topaz, set in a rub over gold collet. Stones at this period of time were closed in the back and foil beneath the stone reflected light and added a rich hue. It is surrounded by four small mine cut diamonds set in silver collets. The 18k gold is smoothly rendered, light in weight, and beautifully designed. The arches and swirls are constrained and as expected of Georgian jewelry, well proportioned. It measures a 7 1/4 US. The condition is excellent and it is entirely original. Wonderful and rare, circa 1760. |
