| This antique English Victorian locket is circa 1880. The star motif was quite popular during this period, and this example is decorated with dark blue enamel, four lustrous split pearls and rose diamonds. The bale is substantial and perfectly proportioned with the locket. It opens and closes securely by fitting a thumbnail into a tiny depression. It is completely original, and the gold work is well done and in very good condition. There are scratches on the reverse of the bale, but no dings or initials as so commonly found. The interior as seen, was fitted with an old photo. There is no glass, but the original bezel is removable, and it would be easy to fit with an acrylic cover for the photo if so desired. The locket is 15k and measures a bold 2 1/4 inches including the bale x 1 3/8 inches across. It is 11 dwt. or over a half ounce of gold. It would be lovely joined with a cord or chain, worn short or long. England, circa 1880 | |||||||
