This beautiful cross is Georgian, circa 1820. It is designed with four sculptured, translucent chalcedony with contrasting gold work. The chalcedony panels centered with an emerald is surrounded with natural pearls. The gold work is finely rendered creating spirals and flowers spun in 15k gold. This cross distinguishes itself by the tiny decorative diamonds and emerald that are inset in the chalcedony. The cross measures a bold 2 1/2 inches long with the bale. The cross itself is 2 inches square. It is completely original as is the patina. The gold work has fine detailing with several colors of gold. The reverse has a glass panel which could have housed a sentimental lock of hair. It is quite dramatic, and especially beautiful on a black cord, or ribbon as provided. England, circa 1820 |
