Antique Arts And Crafts Opal Gemstone Ring Circa 1900
This ring is a fine example of the Arts and Crafts Movement in England, circa 1900. It is rendered in sterling, and has opals, emeralds and moonstones in a hand worked setting. The moonstones and opals are bezel set and cabachon cut. The emeralds are faceted and bezel set. The color play is beautiful and the gemstones reflect the choice of colors that were popular during the Arts and Crafts period. The materials used were not chosen for intrinsic value, but rather for color and self expression. It is completely hand made and uniquely designed by the artisan. The simple three dots of silver on either end of the central element complete the artistic expression and is also indicative of the work done during this time period. The ring is in very good condition with some surface wear to the stones visible with a loop. One of the larger emeralds has a tiny edge chip. The shank is original and with a loop indicates prior sizing. It is currently slightly larger than a US 5 1/2 and can be re-sized. The center measures1 1/8 long x approximately 7/8 across. Lovely and vibrant, circa 1900 England
