This antique English 15k gold seal/fob is Georgian, circa 1830. It has finely rendered cannetille work, or spirals of twisted wire meticulously forming decorative shapes. This work required a skilled hand and laborious hours to complete. The gold has a rich matte finish accented with tiny discs of polished gold. In this example the form is a harp, a popular motif both for its symbolism of love and for its graceful form. "By neglect thou ruinest me" or Je reponds a qui me touche" (I reply to him that touches me). The white sapphire is faceted and set in an open decorative mount enabling the stone to reflect light with every movement. It measures 1 1/8 inches long x slightly less than 3/4 across. The condition and patina are excellent. The size is perfect for this to be worn on a cord as shown, a chain, or on a bracelet. Give it to someone dear as a token of love or enjoy it yourself. England, circa 1830 |
