| This Victorian ivory necklace is circa 1880. It is most unusual designed with a long ivory beaded chain suspending an ivory locket. The locket has a central carved Essex crystal of an owl. The process of creating an Essex crystal was labor intensive. Carved from the back into the crystal and delicately hand painted, the result is a realistic,dimensional detailed figure. Seen under a loop, all the finely painted details are crisp and well executed. The locket opens and closes with a push button. The details around the rim are also superior. The locket measures almost 2 1/4 inches with the ivory "O" ring x 1 3/4 inches across. The depth is almost an inch. The condition is excellent and the locket can be removed and worn with a ribbon or gold chain. Beautiful and unique, circa 1880, England | ||||||||||
