Antique Georgian Amethyst Gold Earrings Circa 1800
These are rare antique Georgian amethyst earrings. They are designed with beautiful flat cut amethysts that have been finely faceted on the edges. The stones are set closed in the back and foiled beneath the stone to reflect the light. The result, is a subtle hue that is distinctive and lovely, found in early jewelry. Each stone is hand set in crimped collets, and it is this process that gives tiny gold details to the edges of the amethysts. The very bottom has a tiny gold knob, another detail found on original, early tear drop shaped earrings.

There are new ear wires replacing the original and slight dings on the reverse. Beautifully proportioned, they measure 1 5/8 from the top of the gold wire x 1/2 inch across the bottom amethyst. Amethysts were considered precious stones at this period of time, and a color used for royalty. Only the finest jewelry utilized these stones, and it is wonderful to offer these earrings for sale. English, circa 1820.
