This Georgian Maltese cross is circa 1820. It is done in smoky quartz stones that has been flat cut and finely faceted at the edges. The stones have been set in hand crimped setting that are open in the back creating a beautiful play of color and light. The color of the quartz has beautiful golden overtones and is neutral enough to wear with any color clothing. This classical geometric form is softened by the unusual central circle of stones joining the four points of the cross. The gold is low carat, and has a dark rose gold patina which perfectly complements the stones. The pendant is large, measuring 2 1/4 inches long with the bail, X 1 3/4 inches across. The condition is excellent with a design of simplicity and elegance. |
