This ring is Georgian, circa 1750. It is termed, giardinetti, Italian for garden. These small garden rings in Rococo designs were very popular in the 18th century into the 19th as well. The rings were light in weight, airy, graceful and elegant in design. The gold work is finely finished and smooth. This example has a stylized shank of a leafy stem connecting the central floral element. The flower is formed of table cut garnets and rose cut diamonds. The back reveals all stones closed to the light, typical of the period. The stones are set in silver topped high carat gold. The condition is exceptionally fine. There is evidence of prior sizing which was well done. It is a size 8 1/4 US. Unique and rare, circa 1750. |
