Lovely Georgian paste eternity band, circa 1800. This ring is designed with a band of pastes that have been foiled below of each faceted stones, and then set in hand crimped collets. The use of foiling was to enhance the stone and reflect light, as they were commonly closed in the back. This process was laborious and took great skill. The metal is silver topped with gold, used to prevent tarnish of the silver . All stones are original and surface wear commensurate with age can be seen with a 10X loop. A small edge chip to one stone is noted. The hint of champange color is part of the beauty of foiled stones. The ring is perfect to wear with any Georgian jewelry or to stack with other Period rings. It is increasingly difficult to find these original, early rings and eternity rings have always had a special allure for its symbolism. It is a size 6.5 US and very lovely. |
