This 12k gold Scottish agate pin circa 1880, is from my personal collection. It is considered a figural,a ribbon, separating it from the other traditional, more common forms. Most of the brooches from this period used to secure the tartans and had very similar configurations. Brooches designed specifically in feminine forms were few, and fewer still were rendered in gold. The colors are well chosen and subtle with soft shades blending one into the other. The sections are separated by gold that is finely engraved. The brooch measures 1 3/4 inches across x 1 1/2 inches down, a very wearable size. It is the perfect size for a sweater,or collar. The condition is excellent. |
