Elegant Georgian Garnet Pearl Pin
Small Georgian brooches like this one have timeless appeal. This example circa 1820, is especially well done, designed with a perimeter of alternating natural pearls and garnets. The garnets are all set in crimped rub over mounts and foiled back. They are set closed back, and the foiling placed below the stone creates a mellow and beautiful reflection of light. Each garnet has a slightly different hue, some lighter and some darker. It is that variation of color that gives the early Georgian jewelry subtle beauty. The second row of pearls finely enhances the first. Working towards the center is a small band of finely textured gold. The central element and focus of the pin is a beautiful oval faceted precious topaz measuring 12.5 mm x 6.5 mm. It creates the most beautiful color combination with the pearls and garnets.

The brooch is 9k and measures 1 1/8 inches x 13/16. The outer row of pearls measure 1.5mm and the almandine garnets are 3mm. The second row has 2.5 mm perfectly matched natural pearls.

The condition is excellent and the pin entirely original including the mounts. There garnets have slight variations of color and there is slight darkening of some areas of the gold, all to be expected in a piece of Georgian jewelry. It is the perfect size for a sweater, collar, or in combination with other small Georgian pins. Very lovely, circa 1820.
