| This beautiful niello chain is circa 1900, Niello is the process of carving out patterns in metal, in this case silver, and filling them with alloys of metals to create patterns. This process is most refined in French and Russian period jewelry. In this chain a pattern of X's encircle the link front and back. In the center of the oval links are vermeil( gold washed) accents. The beveled pink gold connecting links complete the beauty of this chain. Although originally a watch chain, it is now a used as an unique looking necklace measuring 16.5 inches. It is 800 silver and vermeil. There is also detachable neillo fob with a horse head placed in a horse shoe, as seen in the photos. The chain can then be worn alone, with the clasp showing on the side, or joined with the fob. The large links measure 3/4 inches long x 3/8 wide. They are each beautifully twisted for additional interest and reflection of light. O have shown pictures of the other niello chain listed, as they long GREAT worn together. It also provides a sense of depth to see them side by side. Most likely French and in excellent condition.It is a lovely example of the artistry of niello. | ||||||||||
