Antique Denmark Signed Skonvirke Silver Pin
This silver, and carnelian Danish Skonvirke brooch is circa 1910. Brooches such as this were designed during the same period as Georg Jensen's early period. The term Skonvirke means beautiful work and has been used to describe this period of design. The style is naturalistic with leaves that are all hand hammered and gracefully formed. The center of the flower is a bezel set cabachon carnelian. The interesting detail of the chain of silver balls terminating with an oval carnelian is a beautiful artistic expression. The chain articulates and adds dimension to the design. The reverse has the number 828 for silver content, and BH for Bernhard Hertz. He was a contemporary of Jensen and is a listed and well respected silversmith. The pin measures 2 1/8 across x 2 1/4 down. It has a beautiful patina and is completely original. The condition is excellent.
