These antique diamond earrings are Flemish, circa 1790. Set in silver and backed in gold, they have a beautiful patina. The diamonds are rough cuts, typical of the period and set in tiny pockets of silver. The diamonds are foiled back to reflect light, and the silver is then hand crimped around each stone. The earrings have two sections that articulate, and a central section which moves as well. They are completely original including the wires, which is most unusual. All stones ae original and present. The wires are gold and have interesting gold detailing where they were attached to the silver. They measure 1 3/8 inches from the top of the wire x 5/8 wide. The condition is excellent for the period. There has been a very early repair on the top front section near the central diamond. These are quite rare to find and would look wonderful with period pendants, brooches or necklaces. |
