| This is one of my favorite forms of antique jewelry since it is strikingly modern in design yet over 140 years old. It is called a penannular, or broken ring, and is in sterling set with with beautiful agates. The circle of agates move and allows the pin to be brought through the opening and be secured to the garment. The agates are a beautiful mellow combination of color and are completely original. The top thistle is a carved amethyst and the other stones are crystals which are foiled back and bezel set. The reverse has fine engraving which is visible in the photos. The pin measures 2 1/2 inches to the top of the thistle. The ring section is 1 7/8 inches. It is completely original and in excellent condition. It is Scottish, circa 1860. | ||||||||||
