This is the rarest coral I have sold. It is Italian,circa 1880,and has the finest detailed carving of a putti carrying a large bird in his arms as he soars to heaven. The putti measures 2 inches across x 7/8 at the widest point. The central carving is surrounded by a garden of roses and leaves. The entire composition was then "framed" in a carved swirling pattern. The brooch measures 2 1/4 inches across x 2 inches down. The depth is 1 1/4 inches! The original c-clasp has been replaced with a safety. The earrings which match the brooch, have two putti holding "cloth" over their shoulders and draping their bodies. The putti face each other when worn. They are framed in the same swirling carved coral as the brooch. One putti has a tiny foot missing. They measure 1 1/8 long x 7/8 wide. The original gold wires have been replaced with screw backs. These could be returned to gold wires if desired by a competent jeweler. The condition is excellent. This is a rare offering. |
