These fine gold, amethyst earrings are Georgian, circa 1790. Amethyst has long been associated with the Royals. England's love of this stone spans a thousand years and it is found in Royal collections all over the world.
These earrings have faceted amethysts that are foil back and have hand crimped collets. The 9k gold is finely rendered, and they retain the original back to front, closures. They are day/night earrings, so called because the bottom drop is removable for daytime wear if so desired. How rare to find a pair of 18th century earrings that are completely original and in excellent condition. They are a petit size measuring 1 1/4 inches from the top of the wire X 3/8 across the bottom. The size makes them the perfect complement to a reviere or other piece of jewelry without overpowering it. Elegant, simple and rare. England circa 1790.
