This form is rare to find in an antique Scottish agate bracelet. The central design is a knot, often called a lover's knot, a popular symbolic design found in brooches, but the joining of crescents to create a bracelet makes this distinctive. Each section is connected ingeniously by a concealed hinge and terminates with an integral concealed clasp. This particular bracelet has a meld of colors artistically chosen by a skilled lapidary. The sterling has fine hand engraving accenting each section of the bracelet. It measures 7 1/2 inches in length. The central knot measures 1 3/8 inches long X 1 inch across. It is in excellent condition with two tiny dings on the edge of two crescents, barely visible with close scrutiny. A very fine example of Scottish design, circa 1860. |
