This antique silver Scottish agate locket and chain are circa 1880. It is rare to find Scottish agate lockets and this has an unusual front opening for the photo. The hand engraved locket measures 2 1/4 inches long without the bail X 1 3/8 inches across. With the bail it measures 2 3/4 inches long. The chain, often called a collar, has hand engraving and tiny little silver cannonball accents. The chain can be reversed if the simple side is preferred. The chain measures 17 1/4 inches long X 6/8 inches wide. It has the original spring ring closure which attaches the chain and locket. Both are sterling. The locket opens and closes securely and the bottom section articulates freely. It does not have a glass covering the photo. There are two tiny edge chips visible with a loop, but overall condition is excellent. It is a unique design and most unusual to find in Scottish agate jewelry. Scotland, circa 1880 |
