To bee or not to bee...This dramatic example of a Victorian bee brooch is rendered in 18k gold, enamel, moonstone and rose diamonds. The head is set with a gem quality cabachon moonstone that is clear and blue, exhibiting that beautiful sheen known as adularescence. The details are fine, right down to the antennae which are set with tiny diamonds on their tips. The eyes are faceted rubies. It weighs 10.5 dwt So realistically modeled, it appears to be in flight. The bee measures 1.5 inches long x 1 3/4 inches across. The condition is excellent. European origin, circa 1910 |
