These earrings exemplify the art of Shakudo. They are circa 1890, backed in gold, and framed with gold twisted wire work.
Shakudo is an alloy of approximately 96% copper and 4% gold and when patinated forms a fine gray/black. The Japanese artisans finely decorated the swords of the Samurai warriors. This small Georgian garnet locket is 18th century. It has flat ,foil back cut garnets set in gilt metal surrounding a central glass locket. The locket which opens in the back, has been filled with tiny cut diamonds and three faceted garnets. The stones all move freely and sparkle as they move. This charming design was popularized by many designers including Renee Lewis of Barney's, and Chopard.
