This lovely French pair of diamond earrings are circa 1900. They are called dormeuse earrings in France, for dormer, or sleep. They are petit and comfortable enough to wear to sleep or for daily wear. In Paris, even today, you will see the woman wearing similar earrings with just a touch of sparkle as this pair imparts.

These antique 18k gold earrings were just purchased in Paris. The bright faceted cushion cut pastes are raised in fine gold fleur de lis settings. The size of each radiant, cushion cut stone is visually about 2 cts. each. These are such a lovely and quite rare example of Victorian design. The form is a Scottish Tara, a Celtic design. This motif is most often found on brooches and I am always thrilled finding this design in earrings. They are 15k, have a beautiful patina, and exhibit fine gold work. I just returned from Paris, where this amazing Art Nouveau vermeil chain was purchased. It is dramatic, long and beautifully designed. It is silver, with French guarantee stamps (poincons) on the O rings. The chain has an original vermeil finish, which is a gold wash on the silver giving this chain a beautiful patina.
