This is the second listing of a Victorian niello pendant. Niello jewelry became very popular at the turn of the 19th century and lovely items were created to match the demand. The process of niello is unique, whereby metal, in this case silver, is etched in patterns. Then alloys of metals which have been fused are filled in the cavities. The characteristic patterns in muted gray are thus created.

Superb example of a Victorian Scottish agate brooch. Designed in the shape of a dirk, it was originally used to adorn the tartans. It is Victorian, circa 1860 and is sterling, and hand engraved. The agates are a very lovely choice of mauves and bloodstone. The top agate is quite a unique choice of color and well chosen to offset the other three agates. The three contrasting stones are faceted crytals which have been foiled back for color and set in silver collets. This dirk is extremely well don ...click for details

This silver gilt ,marked 800,necklace dates 19th Century. It is extremely fine micro work with small tesserae beautifully set in a floral motif interspersed with fine silver wire work. This is rare to find in silver and in this condition. It is a choker, at 14 inches and would grace a smaller neck . The chain is a classical foxtail link, and it has the original closure. There have been no repairs and is in excellent condition. This is lovely example of the art of micro-mosaics.
