Lovely,unusual Scottish agate brooch,circa 1860. The design is quite beautiful and looks like a pinwheel of woven colors. Intricate and tedious work, this is an artistic brooch and very much in keeping with the distinctive work of this art form. Each piece of agate is cut and placed on slate and then mounted in a custom silver frame. The frame is simply to secure the stones, not to enhance the beauty, or to detract the viewer. This is the second listing of a Victorian niello pendant. Niello jewelry became very popular at the turn of the 19th century and lovely items were created to match the demand. The process of niello is unique, whereby metal, in this case silver, is etched in patterns. Then alloys of metals which have been fused are filled in the cavities. The characteristic patterns in muted gray are thus created.

This bracelet is sterling Victorian circa 1900. It is signed G.A.S. for Georg Anton Sheid, a Vienna silversmith who created some wonderful jewelry and objects. This clamper design bracelet with lion heads has fine silver work. It is large, measuring 8 6/8 inches around interior, and can comfortably fit an average to larger wrist.
