This form is rare to find in an antique Scottish agate bracelet. The central design is a knot, often called a lover's knot, a popular symbolic design found in brooches, but the joining of crescents to create a bracelet makes this distinctive. Each section is connected ingeniously by a concealed hinge and terminates with an integral concealed clasp.

This particular bracelet has a meld of colors artistically chos ...click for details

How is it that every Scottish piece of jewelry is different. Certainly the forms are similar, but the beauty is in the individual choice of colored stones. This kilt pin, a dirk, is an example of the artistry of the lapidary. The colors of the agates are extraordinarily lovely. Each agate was cosen for color, cut, polished and accented by hand engraved silver . The bezel set, faceted stones are rock crystals that were foil backed. This very pale hue works magically with the colored agates. The ...click for details

This dramatic and beautiful Scottish agate and citrine brooch is circa 1880. The form of the brooch, is traditional and was worn to ornament and secure the top sash of the tartans. It is called a Tara brooch and now is enjoyed by women who wear this on scarves, coats, and sweaters..

This particular Tara is designed with a mellow choice of agates that blend harmoniously. It is accented by four faceted citrines and has ...click for details

This cherub necklace rendered in silver, and decorated with garnets is circa 1860. It is finely detailed and very versatile. The chain can be worn with or without the pendant as it can be easily detached with a concealed hook behind the chain. The pendant designed at the height of the Renaissance Revival, has a three section articulating classical design, with white and black enamel work. The center of the pendant has a winged cherub that is vermeil. The vermeil, a gold wash on the silver is ...click for details

This antique Scottish agate sterling brooch is unique in design and execution. Like all forms of art, few distinguish themselves as unforgettable. One of my personal favorites, this brooch is quite early, circa 1840. It is designed with perfectly chosen agates all melding together in perfect combination of color. Each agate was cut on a curve and carefully inlaid by a highly skilled lapidary. This was done so perfectly that the eye doesn't even see the silver strips that separate each stone ...click for details

This beautiful English, Victorian silver, cuff bracelet has the date letter for 1884. I have had several fine pieces of jewelry from the Aesthetic Movement, but this is the first with a buckle motif.

This design period, called the Aesthetic Movement had it origins when a peace agreement with Japan was fostered by Commodore Perry in 1854. The arts of Japan were now open to the eyes of the world. The art of mixed metal ...click for details

This long, beautiful niello chain is circa 1890. The process of niello is actually a fusion of metals, among them copper, silver, lead and sulphur. This fusion, was then poured into silver that had been designed with groves/patterns. The geometric motifs, similar to this chain were often French. The metal used was 800 silver, as it was better than sterling when used with this process. More information can be found in the book on Victorian jewelry by Dawes and Davidov, page 52. ...click for details

This antique sterling locket and chain are 19th century English. A locket has been a sentimental piece of jewelry given as a token of love for centuries. This example has a beautiful restrained design similar to the work of Castellani. The finish on the locket is a subtle matte finish with fine Etruscan wire work. It has hallmarks on the reverse for Birmingham, 1898 and a maker's mark of AER. The beautiful sterling chain has links accented with textured tops. For similar, see page 31 in Vict ...click for details

This antique silver Scottish agate locket and chain are circa 1880. It is rare to find Scottish agate lockets and this has an unusual front opening for the photo.

The hand engraved locket measures 2 1/4 inches long without the bail X 1 3/8 inches across. With the bail it measures 2 3/4 inches long. The chain, often called a collar, has hand engraving and tiny little silver cannonball accents. The chain can be reverse ...click for details

This Victorian sterling locket is circa 1880. It is very simple in design bearing an asymmetrical strap and buckle motif. This motif was very popular during this period in keeping with Queen Victoria's Order Of The Garter. It appeared on bracelets, brooches and earrings. It is a wearable size, 2 1/8 inches long with the bail x 1 1/4 inches across. The locket alone without the bail is 1 5/8 inches long. It opens to reveal the original glass, bezels and photos.
