This form of Scottish brooch is among my favorite. It is called a penannular, or split ring. Used for centuries to secure garments, this brooch appears strikingly modern in its sleek, simple design. It is rendered in 12k gold and set with beautifully chosen agates cut en cabachon. The top is a citrine, finely cut in the form of the native flower of Scotland, the thistle. The other two stones are faceted crystals that are collet set and foil back to reflect the light. ...click for details

These antique French garnet earrings are circa 1890. They are Perpignon garnets from the region in France that they are made. Unlike Bohemian garnets so popular at this same period, these have a beautiful mellow color. The cut too, is distinctive as the facets are cut across the entire curving surface, not the typical raised rose cut. The garnets form a flower cluster and each petal has a slightly different hue, created by foil placed beneath the stone. Each garnet is set in cut down gold coll ...click for details

These Victorian gold Scottish cufflinks are quite rare. Most antique Scottish jewelry was designed in silver and finding any in gold is rare. In this case,it was truly exciting to find Victorian Scottish agate cufflinks rendered in gold. The 9k gold is finely hand engraved and inlaid with Montrose gray, bloodstone, jasper and mustard colored agates. There is a fine interplay of color the geometry is superb. The cufflinks measure 3/4 inches and are attached to the batons with chains. One mustard ag ...click for details

This whimsical diamond rooster brooch is French, circa 1900. It is designed as a cockeral cleverly rendered with old European diamonds set in silver topped gold. The cockeral, or "le coq gaulois" has long been the symbol of France's fighting spirit and this is a very fine example. The 33 diamonds are beautiful, weighing approximately 1.15 cts. FG color and VS clarity. The diamonds have great color and sparkle, as the stones are not closed in the back and are well cut. The eye is ...click for details
