I saved this Scottish brooch for a holiday listing. It is extraordinary in its artistry and in its execution. It is one of the earliest I have owned, circa 1830. The central crystal is set foil back in a repousse bezel. The use of foil beneath the stone was used to bring light and color, as it was closed in the back. This technique attributes a mellow hue of pale yellow with hints of pink. The agates are all inlaid in a curved swirling pattern set within silver strips almost invisible to the eye. ...click for details

Perhaps the loveliest leaf I have seen in many years, this antique Scottish agate brooch is circa 1860. The Scottish brooches reached their peak of popularity in the mid 19th century when Queen Victoria frequented Balmoral Castle and dressed her family in tartans. Her love of Scottish jewelry was then matched by the populace and wonderful artistic pieces were created.

This particular brooch, called a figural, as it is ...click for details

Unique and subtle beauty is the best way to describe this brooch. It is Scottish, circa 1850 and is the only one of this form I have had the privilege of selling. It is an example of the finest skills of a lapidary, as it replicates the movement of braiding, rendered by hand and limited only by imagination. How incredible to achieve this from stone. It has the traditional colors of Scottish jewelry, bloodstone, jasper and Montrose gray, all of which are indigenous to Scotland. ...click for details
