This wonderful, very long niello chain was purchased in Paris. I was fortunate to acquire it from a retiring dealer's personal collection. It is so rare to find one that is very long, especially in such pristine condition. Niello is the fusion of silver, copper, lead and sulfur which when blackened is poured into incised metals. This striking necklace, known as Pools of Light, is circa 1900. Each orb is a rock crystal, quartz, that has been enclosed within a silver cage. They were popular in China and Japan and held the belief that all the goodness and healing qualities of the crystal are protected if left undrilled. This wonderful Scottish agate sterling bracelet is designed as a a working belt. So rare to find, it has agates indigenous to Scotland all perfectly cut and inlaid into engraved sections.
