This beautiful English, Victorian silver, cuff bracelet has the date letter for 1884. I have had several fine pieces of jewelry from the Aesthetic Movement, but this is the first with a buckle motif.

This design period, called the Aesthetic Movement had it origins when a peace agreement with Japan was fostered by Commodore Perry in 1854. The arts of Japan were now open to the eyes of the world. The art of mixed metal ...click for details

Star light, star bright....This magical Georgian crystal pendant is circa 1800. It has vibrant, bright crystals that have a large table with faceting around the perimeter. The stones are all foil back and black dot. The foiling beneath the stone brings light to the closed back, and the tiny black dot was used to simulate the culate of a diamond. Although these are not genuine "diamonds" imitation jewelry from this period is highly collectible, as the cutting and setting of the stones w ...click for details

These radiant, Georgian paste earrings are circa 1820. Originally cuff buttons, they have been beautifully converted to earrings with the addition of gold wires. They are white, bright and clear with the characteristic black dot. The dot had been used to simulate the culet of a diamond. The faceted pastes are foiled back, radiating light with every turn. The use of foil during this period was to enhance the brilliance, as the stones were typically closed in the back. These earrings have silver r ...click for details

This is an outstanding example of the art of antique Scottish agate jewelry. This brooch, in the form of a traditional Tara is a unique rendition. It is a panoply of color with curved paisley shaped mauve agates blending with Montrose gray, bloodstone and jasper. The deep cairngorm and amethyst are the perfect foil of color to the mellow agates. The silver work and engraving too are superior. The reverse has all original mounts. The small ring is for a safety chain if so desired. It measures 2 6/ ...click for details

This long, beautiful niello chain is circa 1890. The process of niello is actually a fusion of metals, among them copper, silver, lead and sulphur. This fusion, was then poured into silver that had been designed with groves/patterns. The geometric motifs, similar to this chain were often French. The metal used was 800 silver, as it was better than sterling when used with this process. More information can be found in the book on Victorian jewelry by Dawes and Davidov, page 52. ...click for details

This antique sterling locket and chain are 19th century English. A locket has been a sentimental piece of jewelry given as a token of love for centuries. This example has a beautiful restrained design similar to the work of Castellani. The finish on the locket is a subtle matte finish with fine Etruscan wire work. It has hallmarks on the reverse for Birmingham, 1898 and a maker's mark of AER. The beautiful sterling chain has links accented with textured tops. I saved this Scottish brooch for a holiday listing. It is extraordinary in its artistry and in its execution. It is one of the earliest I have owned, circa 1830. The central crystal is set foil back in a repousse bezel. The use of foil beneath the stone was used to bring light and color, as it was closed in the back. This technique attributes a mellow hue of pale yellow with hints of pink. The agates are all inlaid in a curved swirling pattern set within silver strips almost invisible to the eye. ...click for details
