This Scottish brooch is circa 1880. It a very traditional motif called a garter. It has agates, all artistically selected to blend well together to create a fine composition. The engraving work is superior and threads itself around each stone and the perimeter of the brooch. The detail that is most distinctive is the use of the cairngorms. This is the only one I have owned having multiple cairngorms alternating with the agates. The colors of the stones are soft, and brings light to the agates. ...click for details

How rare to find a Scottish brooch designed purely for the beauty of the agates, not for the ceremonial, traditional motifs.

This brooch has colors that bring to mind the heather dotting the Scottish landscape. Shades of salmon, green and pale gray, blend one to the other. To me, it looks like a ribbon secured in the center. Each stone is carefully placed, with one on the opposite side, like a mirror image. Th ...click for details

This is an antique Scottish agate brooch, circa 1880. Its form is beautiful in its simplicity and the agates well chosen for color and striation. It is a complex brooch to create and it is labor intensive. Each agate has a "foil" or opposing agate and a woven pattern is created ,subtle and beautiful.

The pin has a remarkably contemporary feel as it is unencumbered by silver or engraving. This restraint ...click for details

The word rare is appropriately used in this description. This antique mid 19th century brooch is Scottish. As I have described in other pieces, a figural brooch is rare in Scottish agate jewelry as most were traditional in form.

This butterfly is folk art at its best, and the finest I have sold. It is large, measuring 3 1/8 inches across the wing span X 2 inches down. It has a beautiful choice of agate colors th ...click for details

Lovely Georgian paste eternity band, circa 1800. This ring is designed with a band of pastes that have been foiled below of each faceted stones, and then set in hand crimped collets. The use of foiling was to enhance the stone and reflect light, as they were commonly closed in the back. This process was laborious and took great skill.
