Above the large stone, is a smaller faceted paste also set in crimped mounts. Unfortunately, these tiny stones don't appear clearly in the photos. The bottom of the earrings are 18k gold, as are the wires. The silver and gold work is superb, as would be expected of French craftsmanship. This Victorian, Scottish brooch is circa 1860. The form is rare and and quite intricate. The laborious work of a lapidary created a braid, or weaving done with agates. The departure from traditional Scottish forms are always the rarest to find. This particular form appears similar to a Scottish quaiche, or drinking vessel. The colors are vibrant and well chosen. The brooch measures 2 3/4 inches across x 1 1/2 inches down. It is completely original and in excellent condition. It is worthy of the ...click for details
