This is a wonderful example of 19th century tortoise shell jewelry. It is bold ,designed with thick double pierced links connected with opposing direction alternating links. Each link measures approximately 1 inch long x 5/8 wide. The total length is 8 1/4 inches. It terminates with a lovely heart padlock embellished with a silver heart. This beautiful antique niello neck chain is unique. Niello is the process of creating patterns by etching metal and then filling it with alloys of metal that are fused and then filled in the cavities. The effect is subtle and lovely. In this 800 silver chain, it is a series of dots. It is the only one I have seen designed in a box link. The scale of the link itself is unusual, measuring 1/2 inch x 1/4 x 1/4 depth. Long,dramatic, Victorian gold earrings, circa 1900. These earrings are set with deep green bloodstone that has flecks of cranberry color. The bottom agate is faceted and set in a beautifully detailed conical shaped bezel. The top of the earring complements the bottom with a bloodstone agate and has fine gold detailing. This cut steel bracelet is circa 1850. Cut steel jewelry was difficult and time consuming work utilizing steel nail heads or studs that were faceted and polished.
