SOLD

This Scottish silver agate bracelet is circa 1860. It is of the finest quality both in design and execution. Each plaque has six agates, individually cut and shaped by a lapidary, then secured and placed on slate. The four corners of each section have a heart. This work is the most time consuming as the beauty is defined by the level of skill and artistry of the lapidary. I have not had a bracelet like this for sale in many years, as they have always been rare to find. ...click for details

This antique Scottish agate ribbon brooch is circa 1880. Most of the brooches from this period are traditional and those that are figural, like this one, are rarer to find.

I have sold this form of brooch before, but this is a variation in color and sculptural quality. In this brooch, the side agates are raised giving the brooch a realistic rendition of a ribbon. The central oval has agates that are cabachon cu ...click for details

Extremely rare Scottish agate brooch, circa 1860-1880. This brooch set in sterling, has finely inlaid agates set invisibly one to the other. The colors meld so perfectly that the eye catches the subtle play of color uninterrupted by any adornments. The striping is created by several pieces of agates placed together, seamlessly forming a pattern. What is also distinctive, is the central sterling silver cross, the Cross of St. Andrew. It is as subtle as the beautiful colors of the agates. The t ...click for details

It is a rarity in antique Scottish jewelry to find it in gold, especially 15k. This brooch, called a dirk, is designed as a replica of the weapon. It was used to fasten the kilts, but of course today its use is varied and enjoyed by women as well as men. Perhaps one of the finest examples, this brooch is signed Atchison. I believe Atchinson to be the name of the jeweler.

The gold work, as would be expected is the ...click for details

These are rare antique Georgian amethyst earrings. They are designed with beautiful flat cut amethysts that have been finely faceted on the edges. The stones are set closed in the back and foiled beneath the stone to reflect the light. The result, is a subtle hue that is distinctive and lovely, found in early jewelry. Each stone is hand set in crimped collets, and it is this process that gives tiny gold details to the edges of the amethysts. The very bottom has a tiny gold knob, another detail f ...click for details
