This is a remarkable example of the art of niello. Niello is the term to describe the process where alloys such as copper, silver and lead sulfides are fused and then inlaid into incised metals form designs and patterns.

In this example the locket is decorated in a checkboard pattern on the front, back as well as the bail. What makes this unique, is the strap and garter motif, which is the oldest British order of Chivalry...

So rare, and from a fine collection, this pique bracelet is extraordinary. Pique is the the term used to define the technique in which silver and gold are inlaid into tortoise shell to form a pattern. The technique was used on objects and spread to jewelry in the 19th century reaching a peak during the 1850's-1880's...

This wonderful, very bright pair of Georgian paste earrings are circa 1800. Just purchased in London, they are a superb example of Georgian paste.

The paste stones, originally designed to copy diamonds are now viewed as an art form, with world-wide collectors. The clear pastes are white and reflective, foil back and set in hand crimped silver collets. The use of foil in stones closed in the back adds a brilliance as well as a mellow hue. It is especially beautiful in the evening light...

Wonderful, antique French 18 karat gold earrings, circa 1890. They are designed with a small faceted paste below which is a large, bright faceted stone open to the light, approximating a 2 plus carat diamond.

The gold work, and the fleur de lis, distinguishes this pair, as it is very finely rendered. They are beautiful from every angle and are 18 karat and 800 silver...

These antique diamond, gold earrings are French, circa 1890. They are called dormeuse, or sleeper earrings, as the size made them comfortable enough to wear to sleep. This antique long silver guard chain is from the Arts and Crafts Movement. It is Continental, 800 silver, and has a maker's mark. This movement of design favored anti-industrial, simple forms. This Jugenstil style muff chain is reminiscent of the work of Murrle Bennett, Archibold Knox and Charles Horner. Although the movement swept the years of 1860-1910, most jewelry was produced during the period of 1890-1910...

Simply wonderful, these Scottish agate sterling silver earrings are circa 1860. The design is classical, and often found in the traditional brooches. This antique gold necklace, referred to as a reviere, is English, circa 1800. Radiant, faceted ,foil back pastes create this very special necklace. The cushion shaped pastes are foiled with a rich pink color, perfectly simulating pink topaz. The use of foil enhanced the reflection of light, as stones were characteristically set closed back. The use of foil not only contributed to the vibrancy, but to the distinctive hue...

I have received so many requests for these, and finally can offer a stellar pair of clear Georgian paste earrings. They are bright, white and reflective. The pastes are faceted in a rarer step cut and are foil back. They have the tiny black dot in the center of each stone used to simulate the culet of a diamond present in the finer Georgian paste jewelry. Each stone is set in silver, with hand crimped collets and bulbous backs.

They are rendered in 14k gold and are mirror images designed with a naturalistic theme of tendrils of leaves and flowers set upon a vine of ribbon. The pictures hardly translate the scale of these 18k French crystal earrings. They were purchased in Paris and designed with substantial 18k gold mounts with a beautiful pierced gallery. They rival the best of this type of earring I have offered. The faceted bright white, bottom crystals are over 4 carats in size and the top stone approximately 30 pts. They are striking and reflect light with every movement. They have an easy back to front closure.>p> They measure one inch from the top wire a...
