These are quite amazing examples of French provincial earrings. They are mid 19th century, and most likely from the Berry Region of France.

Why are these unusual? Finding examples of antique earrings in completely original condition, in a region where these are seldom found, is what makes them rare. They are beautiful in their lack of sophistication and in their artistry. Each of the three part articulating sections, is wonderful...

This antique very fine chain is designed with a motif of love knots. The love knot symbolizes rings of love, where there is no beginning or end....just eternal love. It is difficult enough to find an antique chain of substantial length, but finding one with a beautiful, meaningful link , and retaining a rich, original patina is wonderful.

The chain measures 60 inches without the clasp and 61 inches including X 1/4 inches wide. It weighs a significant 60 grams...

These rare and remarkable Georgian 15 karat aquamarine earrings, are circa 1820. They are designed with beautiful aquamarines, quite rare to find in jewelry during this period. The gold work too is superior, smooth and finely rendered right down to the tiny details. The gold created the perfect frame for the stones, in its restraint and artistry.

The three articulating sections earrings appear bold, but actually are light and so comfortable, also typical of this period...

Spending a day in Paris and locating this chain was indeed a pleasure. It is French, circa 1900 and is designed with rectangular niello plaques joined by rose gold links.

Niello is the process of using alloys of copper, silver, sulphur and lead, fusing them, and then inlaying on incised metals. The patterns created are subtle and beautiful. In this example the checkerboard pattern is the perfect foil for the mellow rose gold connecting links.

The chain measures 60 inches long X 1/8 inches ...

So rare, and from a fine collection, this pique bracelet is extraordinary. Pique is the the term used to define the technique in which silver and gold are inlaid into tortoise shell to form a pattern. The technique was used on objects and spread to jewelry in the 19th century reaching a peak during the 1850's-1880's. By the turn of the 20th century the industry came to a close as the work was too intensive to be cost effective.

This bracelet , inlaid with silver and gold is worthy of the fi...

These antique diamond, gold earrings are French, circa 1890. They are called dormeuse, or sleeper earrings, as the size made them comfortable enough to wear to sleep. At the turn of the 19th century, every well dressed, fashion conscious woman, could be seen wearing these while walking the streets of Paris. Today, they are equally as popular, given the lovely design and petite size make them suitable for day or evening wear.

This antique long silver guard chain is from the Arts and Crafts Movement. It is Continental, 800 silver, and has a maker's mark. This movement of design favored anti-industrial, simple forms. This Jugenstil style muff chain is reminiscent of the work of Murrle Bennett, Archibold Knox and Charles Horner. Although the movement swept the years of 1860-1910, most jewelry was produced during the period of 1890-1910.

This long chain, measuring 60 inches long X 1/4 inches wide is a simple and e...

Simply wonderful, these Scottish agate sterling silver earrings are circa 1860. The design is classical, and often found in the traditional brooches. However, finding this motif in earrings is a rare delight. Each earring articulates, and has a central cairngorm surrounded by paste foil back stones set in silver bezels. Inlaid agates of Montrose gray, bloodstone, and jasper accent the colored stones, The entire composition is well executed by a superior lapidary.

The Victorians loved symbolism, and the love knot form was favored. In Scottish agate jewelry the Celtic knot, symbolized endless love, where there is no beginning or end.

I have had this form in silver (as most Scottish jewelry was designed in silver,) but rendered in gold it becomes a rare offering. Lovely agates of mauve and Montrose gray were cut, shaped, polished and inlaid in hand engraved surrounds. Swirling gold commands the eye as it twists and turns gracefully like a ribbon, to ...
